Look mom! No training wheels!

We told Ethan that his training wheels were coming off on his birthday. Well, we cheated and took them off three days early. Dustin ran with the bike, holding on to the back of the bike seat for a couple of days, but it was killing his back. And Ethan was getting frustrated. So, Dustin bought a Balance Buddy. It was way easier to teach him with this thing. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to teach their kid how to ride a bike.

Well, Dustin, Ethan, Owen and Margaret went for a walk/bike ride on a bike path that used to be the old railroad line through Northampton. Dustin was running behind Ethan, holding onto the handle for a while, and then started letting go a little bit at a time. Ethan was riding pretty smoothly, so Dustin let go and ran up beside Ethan's bike! When Ethan realized Dustin wasn't holding on, instead of being scared, he had a big smile on his face and kept on riding. He rode by himself all the way across the bridge over the Connecticut River. Yeah Ethan!!!

An interview with Ethan:

Here's one of Ethan's first solo rides at home. Oh, and don't mind me in the middle of the video cleaning off the camera lens...it was smudged!
