Day 29

Framing is well under way. There have been a few hiccups, but nothing that can't be fixed. When we visited the house over the weekend, we found that some of the windows were framed in wrong. Some were the wrong size, and some were not framed at the right height on the wall. We called the builder to let him know, but the framers actually caught their own mistakes and fixed them Monday morning.

Dustin visited on Day 29, which was Tuesday. The stairs had been added, and most of the second floor framed in. They installed the roof trusses over the garage. That was exciting to see! Because the area under the garage roof (the bonus room) will be my art studio. :) Interestingly, they installed floor sheathing in the bonus room, which they weren't supposed to do. You see, we contracted with the builder that WE would finish the bonus room. It saved us a LOAD of money in the price of the house. We were going to buy all the materials: floor sheathing, insulation, dry wall, etc, and do the labor ourselves. Somehow, that didn't get communicated on the plans. Or the framers weren't paying attention. And since they used some of the floor sheathing in the bonus room, they didn't have enough for the rest of the upstairs. Dustin talked to the builder this morning. We were told that the labor for doing the bonus room floor wouldn't be charged to us, since it was a mistake. But they are going to have to get some more flooring for the rest of the upstairs asap. I believe we will still be paying for the materials. But at least it's one less thing Dustin will have to do when we finish the bonus room!
